NONMEM Users Guides

NONMEM Users Guides

This site provides the NONMEM Users Guides — originally distributed only as PDF — as a searchable, cross-referenced HTML book with rendered MathJax equations and linked citations.

What’s here

  • Parts I–VIII — the core Users Guides by Stuart L. Beal and Lewis B. Sheiner, covering introductory modelling, NM-TRAN syntax, PREDPP subroutines, conditional estimation methods, and online help.
  • Introduction to NONMEM 7 — version-by-version changelog from 7.1.2 through 7.6.0, plus ten worked examples.
  • NONMEM 7 Technical Guide — Robert J. Bauer’s treatment of the FOCE, EM, and Bayesian estimation algorithms with derivations and appendices.
  • NONMEM VI and V Supplements — historical notes describing the changes between versions.
  • Supplements — reference tables and community guides (global variables, RADAR5 DDE solver).

All content is faithfully transcribed from the original PDFs and is available under the original license. The source repository, including the transcription workflow, lives at https://github.com/vrognas/nmguides.

NoteOn fidelity to the source

The content here has been kept as true to the original NONMEM Users Guides as possible. In a few places the HTML version is more correct than the source PDFs — obvious typos, equation mistakes, and broken or misattributed citations have been silently corrected where the intent was unambiguous.

Some chapters have been rearranged or merged for clarity: related short sections (e.g. ODE solvers, EM/Monte Carlo methods, utility programs, appendices) are grouped into single chapters with anchor links preserving the original section numbers. The order of material therefore does not always follow the raw PDF layout. Since the NONMEM guides are reference manuals used for lookup rather than read cover-to-cover, the rearrangement shouldn’t materially change how you use them — only make related topics easier to find.

If you spot a discrepancy that looks unintentional, please open an issue on GitHub.
